It was such a cute and fun romance novel, with certain themes interrogated within the book such as gender norms and class stratification. The tropes were refreshing as the characters come across as more realistic.

The representation of Stella as an autistic woman is great, though with all representations, it will tend to box them in a certain category, with certain expectations. However, the author herself has made it clear that it is only one type of representation, and I hope to come across more books with even more diverse representations of autism.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and it's really well-paced!

This is my first book by Helen Hoang and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve already checked out the rest of her books from the library.

I first checked this book out on a whim because it was a skip-the-line copy at the library and I wanted something to read quickly.

I began the book not knowing anything about the plot, aside from that it was popular on Booktok.

I always read authors notes. This book had one in the beginning where Helen indicated that the main character’s personality, particularly the realities of her autism, were modeled after her own life. Knowing that added an additional layer of recognition of the creativity of the story.

Warning this book is on the spicy side, but what kept me reading was the relationship between the two main characters. Although they had instant attraction to each other, the reasoning for their developing feelings was very believable.

What I didn’t find as believeable and why I didn’t give this book five stars - the miscommunication/not sharing their feelings trope at the end went on a bit too long for me. To some extent, I get it, but at the same time it just seemed so obvious they liked each other and we’re just lying to themselves about their and the other person’s feelings.

This is a great, quick read wit my lovable characters. I saw one of the side characters in this book, Khai, is the star of another of Helen Hoang’s books, The Bride Test. I’m excited to read their story next.
