This one has taken me the longest of the first four to finish. I wouldn't want to say that I agree with the "not much happens" complaint that I see a lot. That feels too simplified. This installment does feel like a great lot of set-up. People are repositioned and things happen that will likely become more important over the next few books. I didn't get the "grabbed-by-the-throat" feeling much until the last 4-5 chapters, and then my heart was completely broken. It's good though. So good. So very very good.

Loved it but Martin has left more than one character with their fate hanging by a thread and I'm dying to know what happens next!

Probably the slowest ASOIAF book but worth it for some great POVs and the promise of more.

hmmmm to be completely honest I did not love this one the way i loved the other 3. I was really thrown off by the different characters. i love brienne as a character but i felt almost bored during her chapters because her mission was not that interesting beyond "find sansa". i know that we will get to the other characters in the next book, but sometimes things are already spoiled. davo's death is mentioned in passing so now i know how he dies while getting none of his narrative. i'm also left confused who pate is at the end because i thought he died in the prologue. it seems significant bc why else would you start and end a 978 page book with pate the pig boy? i am feeling a little down because i know that the next book is mostly concurrent and i'm worried i won't get to find out how any of these cliffhangers end other than watching the show. i did like the addition of the vignette chapters about random people from dorne and the iron islands. i loved cerseis chapters so much and she had more than anyone else so that kept me happy. there's nothing more gleeful than watching people who think they are geniuses do blatantly stupid things. cersei reminds me of taylor swift but thats a thought for another day. idk this book just didn't have as many heart-racing moments as the other three. it felt like tons of set up and a lot of walking around the riverlands and very little action. overall i enjoyed learning more about places like dorne and braavos, but i also have so many questions about where the other characters are that it was hard to get into. i don't even feel the satisfaction of finishing bc i feel like i have to finish dance of dragons to feel done with this one! i still loved it just not as much as the other 3.

A Feast for Crows --

(I know that it is split in two parts..) This book made me want for the other characters that were left to Book 5 and felt as though there were pieces missing. I did enjoy reading this book and being able to learn more about Cersi, Sansa and Brienne. Although, certain parts were repetitive such as Brienne searching for a maiden of three and ten, blah blah. BUT that is how Brienne operates so I couldn't hold it against her or the writer. There was quite a lot of chapters focused on Cersi, but for good reason it was almost how her character operated as well.. persistent, jumping in the spotlight and arrogant. She had to steal this book for herself for good reason - which I will leave the readers to figure out on their own.
And can we all give Sam a round of applause? For finally manning up (okay, so maybe only a little.. but still). That was a breath of fresh air and I hope to hear more on Arya because her chapters abruptly ended..?

What can this mean?
Hrmmm?
:p
