I have just discovered that my library has a whole lot of SLG titles available online, so I am super excited. And yes, starting at A.

I’ve noticed that a few people have been mentioning that as suitable for younglings.
My response would be a resounding NOPE. You know how I hate Fairyland is about a child in fairyland but definitely not for children?

Yep.

That being said. It is a beautiful little story. Reading between the lines there is a lot of poverty and trauma in Gretchen’s family, but there is also a lot of joy that comes from her relationship with Chester, and the Grandmother’s optimism.
This is one that I’d like to reread, and I’ll keep my eye on this author.

Excellent black and white art btw

Not really all that inspired or funny. The illustrations of the pig and the fluffy aliens were cute though.

I borrowed this graphic novel from another library in order to better gauge whether or not I wanted this to be in my youth GN collection. I do!

But I can't!

There is nothing graphic or overtly wrong with this story -and I loved the character design for Gretchen and Chester (the talking pig)- but between an ex-convict, always drunk uncle and his pseudo-moonshine business, pot brownies, and a pin-up girl wearing suggestive clothes, I can just see a parent getting their hands on this and complaining.

Which is too bad because I don't find the references to be terribly damaging. ;)

All in all, adorable, I loved it, wish I could buy it for my collection.
