I loved this book so much I bought another 30 copies to share with the families at Abrome and with prospective families. What a great book for families who are entering into the world of unschooling and Self-Directed Education, or at least considering it. It's also a great book for progressive educators who think that they are liberating kids, but are not.

great resource for un/deschoolers. also just a great resource for increasing consent and safety in adult-child relationships. will be reading again and listening to the podcasts too.

Honestly, this is one of the most real, straight to the point, poignant treatises on learning I have ever read. Akilah has a way with words, and ideas. I loved every minute of it, and the introspection it provided.

a necessary read for anyone who wants to lean into liberation and trust. an empathetic, kind book on how to raise your children, and ( I would say!) yourself.

i don’t plan on homeschooling any time soon due to some intense trauma from being homeschooled and in a cult growing up and the severe abuse that my siblings and i experienced - i still think every parent should read this book regardless of their schooling choices. Incredible! I cannot wait to read more from this author and her beautiful family.

This book wasn't necessarily written for me. I have no kids, I don't plan on having kids, and I'm not around kids very often. Still, I do like to judge parents who's kids are annoying. This book will help me on that path.

I especially liked the questions that the author poses throughout the book. They’re very hard questions, and I appreciate her honesty and sensitivity
