My favorite thing about this book was the atmosphere. Told through a journal, we get an intimate glimpse into Piranesi's inner thoughts as he learns about the world he lives in. We only ever knew what he knew, and we saw the beauty of this world through his eyes. He is a delightful narrator, being extremely trusting, curious, naiive, genuine, and focused. I loved unraveling the mystery alongside him and reflecting on what his journals tell us about what it means to have memories, be human, and seek knowledge.

What a truly joyful, kind, and beautiful read. Piranesi reminds me of my dreams of endless homes, endless reflections of life & the love of the world & its inhabitants that I hold so dear.

Holy fuck this book rocks.

A gripping novel, weird at first but embrace the weirdness and you will be rewarded!! There's a mystery that slowly becomes unravelled. Would highly recommend although it's not my usual genre.

I loved that this book felt like a refreshing escape from the normal structure and narrative that many fiction books follow.
I was surprised by most of the book, and deeply appreciated that the magic of this universe was both fantastical and simple, both logical and inexplicable. I found myself confused about the storyline/losing focus frequently throughout the book, which normally would bother me, but it felt like I was experiencing the same thing as the narrator LOL, which I enjoyed. I found the narrator’s genuinely kind soul very touching and deeply enjoyed the process of discovering what had happened. I didn’t realize it was a mystery novel until halfway through which is awesome. The well-established isolated world meant that, with the appearance of each new person or information, it was genuinely shocking. Very interesting and refreshing read.
Also, I pictured The Other as Brett Goldstein.

A friend’s advice that was absolutely true: the book starts with a TON of detail which makes you think you have to remember every little thing, but that’s not why the details are there. The overuse of details are a characteristic of the main character and not important to the story - it tells you the type of person he is. If it’s important, he will repeat it multiple times. The “why” will make sense in the long run.
