The writing and plot was okay. Occasional gems hidden in there. Some thought provoking ideas though.

little fires everywhere is so good it makes me want to cry. the mother daughter dynamics in this book got to my heart every time, and the writing in this book is excellent. it is an emotional read, and the world that Ng builds invites the reader in and made me feel like i lived amongst them.
there is no perfect situation, and there are no perfect people. i love that the characters are multi-dimensional, with specks of grey and silver and ash in them. the book let me empathise with all of them, their motivations and their reason for being.

Wow once I sat down in earnest to read I couldn’t stop for about 6 hours and finished it. This story had so much raw emotion and artistic expression. strongly recommend!

A fascinating exploration of the right to be a mother and the ways in which privilege breeds selfishness. A carefully written, thought-provoking portrait that, while not quite reaching the emotional heights of Everything I Never Told You (for me, at least), has managed to keep me thinking and wondering in the days since.
