So this was an interesting rollercoaster for me. I started off REALLY into it and then it dragged for me the majority of the book. That ending though was fantastic! I'm actually looking forward to the next book!

SO FUN!!!! Loved the main character she really said gaslight gatekeep girlboss (but then went in disguise to mansplain manipulate) I was a bit confused as to who's who as in like... the love interest but that could've been because I was listening to the audiobook and did not remember names very well but it all worked out! A lovely YA fantasy about taking control of your life! And taking revenge!

I truly was not expecting this plot twist! I'm usually pretty good at guessing which way a books plot is headed but this one truly surprised me. I quickly became attached to the main character and found myself concerned for her throughout the entire story. I can't way to read the second book!

This was one of those books which, in my opinion, are a pretty decent mix of good and bad.

The protagonist annoyed me. She was so goddamn whiny. And it irritated me every time the other characters would call her smart or talk about how she can outsmart others because I had to wonder if I missed whole chunks of the book because where exactly did she do anything of note? She couldn't keep her emotions in check, was a terrible liar, was impulsively getting herself into stupid situations and the fact that she didn't end up dead as soon as the book started just seems like good plot armour in the form of bandits who were being super nice to her.

I did appreciate what was a big part of this book-the focus on how they talk about the strength of being a woman. On a personal level, I absolutely loved the way the author went about the dialogues of the matter. I thought it was wonderful.

Also, thankfully the male protagonist is an amazing character. Ookami is A+. Extremely fun to read about.

And of course, the writing was amazing. The author's experience shows in the writing. It was such a joy to read.

Personally, I loved the author's previous book series and so I was looking forward to reading this but it turned out to not be quite on par with my expectations. Nevertheless, I probably will read the sequel when it comes out because it was a decent book.
