Nothing much to say about this one except it's cute despite the teenage angst.

I feel in love with Stacey Lee's second novel, Outrun the Moon. I was super excited to have won an ARC copy of her newest book, The Secret of a Heart Note.

đź“Ť I love the herb alchemy
đź“Ť BFF is <3. She helped save the book when I was annoyed with Mimosa.
đź“Ť It has all the typical cute, angst-y, confused, awkward, and adorable romance troubles.
đź“Ť The twist was really obvious. It made the story feel a bit long and Mimosa a tad irritating. Like, just wanted to shake her and her mom so badly sometimes!
đź“Ť Mimosa's old school mom was realistically annoying and stubborn. She's good and loves her daughter but is her own person with her own issues. I'm really glad how their relationship was done all the way through.

The Secret of a Heart Note is good and cute, perfect for all the YA contemporary fans wanting a little drama and magic. The Secret of a Heart Note has a unique premise with a typical plot and diverse characters with standard relationships.

While I enjoyed The Secret of a Heart Note, it didn't capture me like Outrun the Moon.

I adore Stacey Lee's writing and skill, so I'll be reading her other book Under A Painted Sky and anything new.

This was an interesting book that had magic realism and love potions. However, I never really connected with characters a whole lot and it didn't draw me in a whole lot. It was a cute plot though! 3/5 Stars.

The Secret of a Heart Note is a charming story that reminded me a little of Nicola Yoon's Everything Everything. Mimosa is an aromateur who helps her mother concoct elixirs to help people fall in love. The irony of her job as a love witch is that she cannot fall in love, lest she loses her heightened sense of smell and scent. A glitch in one of her operations leads Mimosa to try to undo her mistake, bringing her closer to star athlete Court Sawyer. Mimosa learns about falling in love itself, but this story works most of all because of Mimosa's unwavering devotion to undo her mistakes in order to help everyone around her. Her selflessness and compassion drives this story to be endearing and heartwarming.

Cute story, interesting and likable characters, and lovely writing, but just required too much suspension of disbelief to be a really engaging read. I was taken out of the story too many times trying to consider how certain rules and aspects of Mim's abilities actually worked. It was distracting.

3.5 stars. This was pretty cute. The stuff with her mom and her aunt definitely worked the best for me. I also really liked her friendship with Kali.
SpoilerHowever, it was frustrating that she didn’t listen to Kali about not giving in to Vicky. Like, I’m glad Kali dealt with it on her own terms in the end, but it still caused a lot of unnecessary problems and made me a little irritated with Mim.
The romance was… fine? Like, I didn’t dislike it, but I never got invested in it, and it felt like the transition to love came way too quickly. My other major issue was that I didn’t feel like the stakes of Mim losing her “nose” were high enough?
SpoilerI mean, if it turned out she never would be able to do the love potions again and wouldn’t have any kids who could and the line of aromateurs had died with her, then… people would just have to fall in love the way they do in real life, which seems fine to me considering that’s… how it is in reality. It’s not like using the aromateurs was a foolproof method anyways. idk, there just wasn’t enough of a reason for me to feel like it would be a huge loss if Mim deciding to choose love over her abilities would have been that devastating an outcome.
