Glorious. A real in depth take on how different relationships can be for and between different people. I really loved all of the characters in this book, even when I didn’t like them, because they were all somehow relatable. Sally Rooney’s writing is refreshing, deep and beautiful.

At first I had a real problem with how similar this book was to Normal People, but I think it was only because Sally Rooney has a way of writing and making her characters deeply disturbed, which is almost their only personality. Don’t get me wrong though, I love her writing. It adds a certain apathetic/depressing pizzaz to her apathetic/depressing stories. (Long story short I love Sally Rooney’s writing)

Anyways, now to the book itself. I loved the story line. I appreciated the perspective of Frances being the mistress. With all that I loved about Conversations With Friends, there is a reason to the 4.5 and not a 5. I found the characters very annoying. I had a problem because I didn’t quite know if I liked any of the characters and I certainly wasn’t sympathetic towards any of them. That being said, as I previously stated, Rooney writes these characters to where you can’t look away and are completely invested in their lives(even if you do in fact dislike them). I also don’t really know how to feel about the ending. I don’t think I liked it, but I couldn’t really decide. The Bobbi plot at the end was iffy and I most definitely was conflicted on the ending, but I could appreciate it.

god this book frustrated me. maybe because i'm a teenager i didn't 'understand it' or whatever. but i thought some of the prose was nice. frances's reflection on religion and her insights into the other characters was interesting. none of the characters were particularly likeable. bobbi i found incredibly ironic to herself. she's rich as anything yet she goes on great lengths about 'love under capitalism' like that means anything to her in the end. i never liked melissa, i though nick was strange for being 32 and sleeping with a 21 year old. i hate how apathetic and submissive he was, just because then he felt like the blame would not be put on him. frances frustrated me to no end oh my god i enjoyed parts of her character but it felt like there was no real development. bobbi and frances are not good for each other because bobbi is like nick - she will not label it so as to not take the blame for anything. the last chapter frustrated me the most, though. it felt like all of their development as characters was just reduced to wanting each other. hated this book.
