I liked this more than I thought I would given the subject material not really resonating with me; it was surprisingly charming, and overall well-done.

I think actually this could make a really cool series. I would love to read about more characters eating the "Eat and Love Yourself" chocolate and going back through their memories to work with all kinds of issues, not just body dysmorphia, and eating disorders.

Thank you to netgalley for an advanced copy of this graphic novel.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Body Dysmorphia, Bulimia, eating disorders, bullying, parental body shaming, depression

This was a really sweet graphic novel. I was a little hesitant, even as I was reading it that the author wouldn't be able to broach this topic with caution while still doing it justice. I was afraid that this idea of a chocolate that could solve all your problems would just be another "get skinny quick" scam and it wouldn't be able to give the message of body positivity. Mindy's parents were complete crap and I can't imagine the depression and other things she would have had to deal with as a teenager. But the author really did bring the message home and I was pleased with the ending.

There's such a misconception that "you have to love yourself before someone else can love you", but sometimes, that just doesn't happen. Sometimes you need someone else to see you as beautiful for you to believe it yourself. And I think this story actually did a good job conveying that.

The story has a great buildup, but when it hits the climax it's just missing a lot for me...

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to review!
Mindy is a girl who has struggled with her body image all her life. She finds a low fat chocolate at the store unknown to her at the time that each piece of chocolate will take her back to her past and make her love herself. I enjoyed this graphic novel. The illustrations are amazing and the story line is superb.I would definitely recommend to a friend.

The art is so !!! Perfect. Story? So good. Eat and Love Yourself follows Mindy with the most perfect hair as she navigates an eating disorder and memory, ultimately resolving to heal. So good. Have pretty much never read a book about an ED featuring someone who is not terribly skinny, so I'm thankful for this representation. 4.5/5
