It’s clear to see the goal Sweeney Boo had in mind with this comic but it just didn’t land for me. I think the fast pace was a detriment to this book. Mindy’s, the protagonist, process doesn’t feel believable or relatable. Which was the main reason I got this comic. I wanted to see myself and be able to relate. Maybe that made me set to high of a standard. I think it was very cliche, down to the name. Also, I know body dysmorphia can effect anybody with any body but I really couldn’t relate to Mindy’s struggles because of her body shape. She has an hourglass shape which is incredibly sought after right now so it made her feel disingenuous to me. A scene of Mindy looking in the mirror and seeing a bigger version of herself, or something of that sort, would’ve helped me believe/empathise with her struggles more. I do have to say the art and drawing style was beautiful though, the author is clearly very talented. I would still give this author another chance based on her character designs alone.
