What happened you may ask? Good question. I have no idea

To be completely honest with you I have a vague recollection of reading this book. Like yes, I read every single word and page, could I diligently tell you what the fuck happened? Absolutely not. So from what I can remember I will say it was... okay? I definitely don't understand why people are going crazy for this book on TikTok though. Like I do NOT get it. Maybe I just have to get to book 2 but to be completely honest with you I could care less and I have wayyyy more compelling reads on my TBR lol. So yeah, I found it pretty forgettable (obviously) and probably won't be continuing the series, but I'll never say never.

This book had me hooked from the first to the last page.
the last two chapters came by surprise. I was so happy some of the things I was rooting for finally happend. But then Asher turned out to be a dick and fucked everyone over. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Had to tell everyone how upset I was

I already downloaded the next book and cannot wait for the adventure to continue since the first book ended on a big cliff hanger

The world-building in this book is insane. It's some of the best world-building I've ever seen tbh.

I focused on the lever in my brain: the little switch, that if I tipped just right, set me free.
The numb clicked on.
Endless numbness.
Cold relief.
All my emotions poofed out of existence, and the world became less vibrant. Colors held less hue.
My scattered, emotional thoughts dissapated into cool nothingness. (13)

The relationships are a touch superficial, but the complexity of the characters makes up for it.  I liked that Sadie is simultaneously strong and weak. She has inner strength and determination but is still ultimately a young woman with insecurities.  Sadie is a warrior who has yet to be trained.  Normally it bothers me when women in RH books are so much weaker than the mythical men of their harems, but in this one, I don't mind it as a huge portion of this story feels like Sadie's coming-of-age.

I was used to not being special. (4)

The cliffhanger ending on this is no joke. Like a truly brutal cliffhanger.
