No evidence is provided that Connie is anywhere near as wonderful as everyone seems to think she is. Nauseating.

I don’t usually read this type of book, but I wanted to branch out a bit and this was available on audio at my local library.

The blurb was interesting, but I found the story lacking.
Here we have a long-term marriage on the edge of breaking because the husband is depressed after retiring.
Because of his depression, he becomes lazy, uncommunicative, unbothered about everything and makes Connie feel unwanted.

This is where I found myself disliking Deven. He ignored his wife, did not listen to a single thing she wanted, badgered her about retiring so she could be miserable with him, told her he was not depressed because he was a doctor and knew what depression looked like. He was completely unable to see anyone else’s point of view and had zero interest in getting help.

So, after two years of this, Connie meets a man who gives her ‘attention’. I say ‘attention’ because I believe they meet all of 3 times before she cheats on her husband.
Then Jared starting turning up at random times and Connie is blissfully ignorant.
Of course, when she gets home her husband has had a miraculous change of heart and she immediately feels guilty.
It’s all very convenient… and it felt too simple.
The ending was a cop-out and it didn’t make me feel anything, unfortunately.

Connie is a tour guide and is in a bit of a rut with her marriage to Devan. Devan has recently retired and seems a bit low about things. Connie falls prey to the attention of Jared who she succumbs to a night of passion and thinks that is it and she can move on. But it doesn't turn out like that at all. I read this book quite quickly and was intrigued as to how the story would unfold.

Far too long for such a predictable story.

🎧 Interesting blurb and it started off well but it really wasn’t anything unusual. It’s a slow slog and I found it just dragged. Connie is likeable enough to begin with but she became tedious and a little annoying. The storyline was only ok and went through the motions but it never really ramped up. Unfortunately wasn’t a listen I’ll remember in a week.
