Duncan Mercredi is one of the best storytellers and poets in Winnipeg. This collection of poetry is raw, powerful, gritty and beautiful. It offers an amazing snapshot of Winnipeg and Manitoba through a Cree/Metis lens. Most of the poems are from Mercredi's 4 books released in the early - mid 1990s and definitely have a post-Oka feeling. Standout poems include Statue, This City Is Red, Betty, Traditional Smoke, and Tin Can Skates. Highly recommended.
