Tried this to see if I would be interested in this author's work, and the answer is - no.

To much brutality for brutality's sake - as a way to ratchet up emotions and stakes and to delineate character affiliations. Not the kind of storytelling I would be interested in.

This was a sweet story. I enjoyed the exploration of hope and resilience through the two main characters. As someone who has only read the Dance of Thieves duo from Pearson's World of Remnant, I did enjoy seeing how the story of Morrighan and Jafir parallels that of Jace and Kazi and am looking forward to any possible incite it might give as I approach the original triology of this world. Definitely a good read for those who enjoy Pearson's work.

This novella really disappointed me. It doesn't add enough to the world to make it interesting and it jumps years frequently between chapters. I thought it would pick up once they started the journey, but that part was completely skipped over. I'd pass on reading this one tbh.
