Tenía muchas ganas de leer a Lovecraft y más concretamente, el origen del universo de Cthulhu. Y quizás esto ha generado demasiadas expectativas.
Me parece una historia muy interesante, con muchísimo potencial, no es de extrañar que se hayan hecho tantos juegos a lo largo de los años, pero no llego a conectar con la trama. Se me queda muy superficial, quedo todo el rato a la espera de saber algo más. Supongo que en las siguientes historias se profundiza en el asunto, pero tampoco me ha dejado con ganas de seguir leyendo.
El lenguaje utilizado, para ser una obra de 1928, me parece descontextualizado, muy arcaico, tanto en la forma como en el mensaje. Un punto bastante fuerte que me ha dificultado seguir con la trama que, lejos de ser difícil, me ha aburrido.

Muchas han sido las ocasiones que he tenido de adentrarme en la literatura de H.P. Lovecraft. Incluso llegué a comprar una antología de homenaje al autor llamada Las mil caras de Nyarlathotep donde solo uno (de diecisiete) de los relatos me gustaron. No era esa la mejor tarjeta de presentación. Sin embargo, animado por la presión social me he decidido a probar las obras originales. Por casualidades de la vida, mi elección ha sido La llamada de Cthulhu en formato audiolibro y vaya si ha sido una gratificante sorpresa... Ahora quiero más.

Ein mysteriöses Grauen, das sich in die Träume der Menschen schleicht - Cthulhu! Ich bin nicht einmal sicher, ob man dieses Werk von H.P. Lovecraft wirklich als "Buch" durchgehen lassen kann, vielmehr handelt es sich ja um eine Kurzgeschichte. Allerdings eine, die - verglichen mit zahlreichen anderen Romanen der zehnfachen Länge - sehr viel dichter, intensiver, kompakter geschrieben worden ist. Lovecraft nutzt die ganze Vielfalt der englischen Sprache, um das Grauen zu beschreiben, von dem er in dieser Geschichte erzählt. Jemand anders schrieb hier als Rezension, dass es keinen einzigen Satz gäbe, der nicht vollgepackt mit Information, mit Atmosphäre wäre, keinen einzigen, der unwichtig sei. In der Tat: Lovecraft schafft es, Sätze zu destillieren, ein Werk nicht mit unnötigem Schnickschnack aufzublähen, sondern auf das Konzentrat zu reduzieren. Und legt damit zugleich die Grundlage für einen Mythos, der bis heute Eingang in die Vorstellungswelten vieler Menschen hat, sei es in Form von Geschichten, Rollenspielen, Videospielen.
Ein beeindruckendes Werk, das weit über seine Zeit hinaus auch Stoff zur Nachdenklichkeit bietet.

Not usually into reading horror/scary books in general but still was still really good.

Finished. Ngl I thought of something entirely different when it came to this short story. I was in the boat of people who knew little but knew who Cthulhu was. I had the idea that it was a detective who came into contact with Cthulhu and his cult (like several video games lol).
All that said, I feel a bit half-and-half. Half of me likes this story, even though Lovecraft’s racism is heavily present. The other half is like “BORING”. There wasn’t much action, a whole lot of telling and not showing. But I did like and appreciate the exposition dump. There was an immersive world (behind a whole lot of telling) about Cthulhu and the Great Old Ones. The hysteria, mania, violence, and otherworldly horrors are explained in the story. What sets me back is that it’s told from a narrator who is [skeptical and can’t believe it]. I think if the Narrator were to discover things on his own and had first experience, the readers would understand and experience what mass hysteria and horrors awaits along with the narrator.
