Growing up I always had such a strong emotional attachment to this book. I would feel emotional most times when reading it. It will always be close to my heart.

I didn't get it. I just didn't get it. Sure, it's cute and the drawings are good, but is the book so remarkable that it's one of the best kids' books of all time?

When I have questions about books, Goodreads provides the answers. I guess I didn't enjoy it that much simply because nobody read it to me when I was young. If I was a little kid giggling in bed as my dad roared at me, I would love it. But I'm not. If I could read the book and remember the joyful fear I felt when I was a kid, I would love it. But I can't.

But I do like how the monsters look so friendly even as they threaten to eat Mike. It's still a nice book.

While in the US I bought this book and I just love it! It's a great children's book with a real story in it. I really enjoyed reading the book, even I was an adult while reading.

I did not expect such an old book to be so rebellious! I’m quite amused that this children’s book, long hailed as a classic, validates so many of the negative emotions that kids have. Sendak accurately captures children’s temper tantrums, their indignation at being punished, and their desire for dominion over authority figures.

After he misbehaves, Max is locked away in his room without supper. Gradually, the room turns into a forest, home to fantastical “wild things”. He overcomes his fears and reigns supreme when these proverbial monsters under the bed crown him king. But soon after, he decides that he prefers his mother’s love and a hot meal over this fictitious land.

While I like the book, I worry that the illogical and anticlimactic conclusion might confuse kids. Even so, it’s refreshing to read about an incorrigible protagonist. I think children will find a kindred spirit in Max and understand his impulses. They get too many role models from other books, as it is; they deserve someone relatable from time to time.

The illustrations, on the other hand, are not just for kids; the warm shades will definitely charm both young and old readers alike. These enchanting textured drawings are worth revisiting, thus ensuring that the book becomes an enjoyable bedtime ritual for imaginative and mischievous minds the world over.
