Ah, Karen. I was never your target demo and I'm still not, though I will say I have never related more than when you decided that your club should be about cats and should have cats attend the meetings because KITTIES.
If you're new to the Little Sister series, enjoy. If you're an adult, take a shot each time a character has changed looks from the originals and kiss your liver goodbye. Or join me in wondering Why The Actual Heck Nancy is no longer a redhead. Seriously, since Amanda got changed to a brunette (so many questions, so few answers, and absolutely no desire to look it up and see if a comment was made explaining it) it's not like we needed to change the redhead to a brunette. Seriously, I will not stand for this redhead erasure, dammit!

Almost middle grade Monday, I’m back with another BSC graphic novel but this time it’s Baby-Sitters Little Sister - Karen’s Kittycat Club.
I never read these as a kid, so it was interesting to read about Karen (Kristy’s step-sister). Karen’s friend gets a cat so she decides to start a kittycat club where they bring their cats and offer to cat sit. When another friend without a cat wants to join, Karen won’t let her. Then they finally get a cat sitting job but the cat owner thinks Karen is too young (she’s six) to watch the cat alone. The easily digestible storyline helps kids deal with friendship issues, starting a business/club, and the challenges of a business. Karen also has to pivot when her friendships are frayed by their business’s lack of success.
Karen has less parental guidance than the Pike kids (see my last middle grade Monday review) and she’s younger. I get everyone wanting her to learn for herself what will/will not work but she’s left to run a bit wild - forcing two friends who don’t get along to hang out and bring their cats that also don’t get along… excluding her friend Nancy. It just felt like Karen needed more direction from an elder (not her 12 year old step-sister). Karen also acts like a brat in both series which is a bit grating to read as an adult (my kids didn’t pick up on it).
This was a better fit age wise for my kiddos (Karen is six) and animals are always a hit. We had good discussions about friendship and what Karen should have done. The story seemed slightly shorter than regular Babysitters Club. We will definitely find books 1-3.

Another cute book in this series. Karen wants to form a club like her big sister’s babysitting club. She discovers that her and a couple friends all have cats so decides to form a kitty cat club. They try to offer the service of cat sitting but unfortunately everyone thinks they are too young.
