I read this for my 2nd grader. The sexism sucked any fun out of this book that may have existed. Mr. Popper is a man child and his wife is forced to carry the totality of the mental and emotional load of it all. Then he leaves at the end and his wife, rightly, appreciates the thought of his absence. Good riddance.
