A very enjoyable read, this one focusing on Rockefeller and the oil business. Chronologically out of order within the series, there is a reason for this that makes sense. This one had more surprises than the previous books and enough of the requisite adventure to keep you reading.

The Isaac Bell series, like the Fargos series, has over stayed his welcome. Stick with Pitt, Austin, and The Oregon.

I am liking Isaac Bell more and more as his personal story unfolds. This book had some surprising twists and less cringe worthy dialogue than other Cussler books.

Just a simple easy summer vacation read. Very similar to all the other Isaac Webb stories before it. It is still fun to read and it kept me entertained.

The 8th book in the Isaac Bell series is a wonderful journey through the early 1900's. You get a glimpse of John D. Rockefeller and his powerful influence with Standard Oil. In the Assassin, Bell is tasked with tracking down a murderer that is targeting the Rockefeller empire. The murdered people are influential in the booming oil industry. The popular opinion is that Standard Oil is behind the turmoil because of Rockefeller's ruthless handling of his competitors. His usually method was to destroy a competitor's business and then buy them out for pennies on the dollar. Because of these practices he is considered one of the most hated men in America.
As Isaac protects the powerful tycoon and follows him all over the world, he looks to find the assassin. The final showdown, through the twists and turns, is a surprise.
As I mentioned, one of the reasons that I love this series is because of the time period. It is fun to explore this period of American history. Usually stories during this time frame are based in Europe so the American aspect is refreshing. Add to that a wonderful mystery/thriller and it is a great series.

This is my first Clive Cussler book and I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. Lots of great action. If you love action adventure novels, give this one a try.

Action just kept moving along in a good story. Kept me in good suspense up to the end.
