A collection of five short stories about an intriguing old lady named Maude. She has lived in her large apartment all her life, and does so rent-free, thanks to a contractual agreement made when her father passed away. Each story is a small glimpse into Maude's world. One would not think such a slight old woman who has all she could want would be in need to murder. But as each story shows, one does what one must to protect what one loves and care for. This was such a good and quick read. I found myself getting lost in Maude’s world and at times feeling as though perhaps she was a bit justified in her actions. Filled with dark humor and unique plots I highly recommend this to any fan of murder and mystery.

In the beginning, this was fun and funny, playing off of the ways in which people ignore or condescend to elderly people. Then it turns expectations on their head by having a seemingly sweet old lady be not only a murderer, but a cold serial killer. At first, I found this darkly funny, but by the end, the tone becomes darker and Maude becomes less likeable or funny. It's an interesting and well-done progression written by the author. I'm curious how the series continues.

This was such a fun read! Maud is a little badass for being 89 years old. She really does get up to no good in this book and I loved it. Maud is so clever at hiding her wicked questionable activities and I hope I'm still cracking ice cold beers at 89 just like her.
