I'll be honest, this book is nowhere near as humorous as the computer game. What? You didn't know the game existed? I highly recommend you go and find yourself a copy, get an emulator (the game is old, but not too old) and sit down for some awesome fun. The book only captures a small sliver of the game, and sadly, perhaps because I have played the game too many times, the book just doesn't catch me like the game does. Yes, it is slightly different from the game, and yes, it was written by Terry Jones (of Monty Python) while Douglas Adams was busy writing the game script, but you'd think with that great pedigree it would turn out to have more humor, not less... ah well, I still have it to round out my collection of books by Douglas Adams, and it is worth reading at least once.

It was interesting reading this book: a novelization by Terry Jones (of Monty Python fame) of a video game that was written by Douglas Adams (of Hitchhikers Guide Fame). I have a feeling like it wasn't as good if it was written solely by one man, but this half and half job didn't turn out so well. The treatment of women in this book also REALLY didn't age well. Hard yikes.

I really wanted to like this book. The story is great at first, funny and confusing at the same time. But once the female characters are introduced and the whole Journalist-Lucy-Dan triangle starts, it lost me. I have never been as mad at a book as the author suggesting that women were attracted to possible murderers, cheated and gaslighted for no reasons, and the way Nettie is treated through it all not just by the people but the author himself. You can tell the writer wrote this book naked and that sexism was the main spice of a sci-fi book about a messed up spaceship. The whole main plot is about how corners were cut when building a spaceship, and how a whole civilization was damaged because of it, but this book ends up being just a joke about 4 people and their unreal connections.

A highly enjoyable light read based off the video game of the same name.

An entertaining book very much written in the Douglas Adams vein. But the extreme levels of sexism were off-putting to me and almost caused me to not finish.
