While I think this book touches on many important topics- family/domestic violence, anger issues, anxiety, fear- I feel like it is too wordy and too heavy at times for children. As an adult reading this, I felt HAUNTED and SCARED, both by the words and especially the illustrations. I think the illustrations do a good job of depicting the Angryman and his aggression and violence. I also believe the words do a good job at showing Boj's anxiety as he deals with his abusive father. However, I just feel overall that this book is a little to dark for the audience it was written for.

Powerful, heartbreaking book about domestic violence from a child's point of view.

Contains potentially scary images -- while the book is probably written for an audience of 2-3rd graders, the content might push this book up a bit.

This is NOT a book to just give to a child -- there needs to be discussion and conversation with this book.

Heartbreaking, dark, scary... but needed.

Wow. This book is heavy but necessary. In a school setting, I can see counselors using it to read with students living in abusive households. I can see this book being used by parents in abusive relationships. Overall I think it is a great book that covers a serious topic.

Det finns få böcker som handlar om detta tunga ämne men hör sker det. Det kan ske på tusen olika sätt men detta är ett sätt. Det ger en så bra inblick i hur barn kan känna sig.
"Hela Boj är stängd av tusen dörrar."

I have never seen my family situation on the page before. The end was too tidy for me and a little too fantastical, but I appreciate finally seeing a story that addresses domestic violence in a picture book that wasn't didactic.

hard to rate this one. I don't think most kids, even those from abusive situations, would like this book. It's too abstract. But adult me liked it very much.

Heavy topic and some frightening illustrations. I wouldn't use this for a storytime, but it could be beneficial in a therapeutic setting.

Wow. Heartbreaking, harrowing, the poetry of the text and rich emotional shorthand of the illustrations offer much to discover and discuss. And though I'm not at all knowledgeable about bibliotherapy or families coping with abuse, there seems to be something here with which to connect at any stage in a child's experience of an abusive situation.
