The start of this book is very much “typical mystery novel” and I was a little bored. About halfway it turned into sci-fi that I wasn’t anticipating and tried to justify itself being realistic when it seemed anything but. It did get much more interesting (though still somewhat predictable) after that and made me more invested through the end, but I’m not sure it leaves me wanting to continue on with the series

Honestly I loved the first section of this book but then Very quickly it got contrived and convoluted. If you’re looking for a mystery novel this is not the book for you. I would say this borders on mystical realism but it needs too much explanation that doesn’t actually make that much sense. Everyone is telling stories that aren’t true and then those stories aren’t true and neither are those ones and so the truth is hard to follow when it comes to what is actually going on. The attempt at plot twists falls short and parts even seemed ridiculous

This didn't work for me, for many reasons.

1. Blurb giving away the main plot point... that you don't find out till 400 pages. Took away all shock and surprise.

2. The unnecessary length of this novel.

3. Horribly abrupt end and giant cliffhanger.

Full review to come.

Interesting beginning to a series. It was a bit confusing in the beginning, but as it appears to be a thriller, that is a good thing. I will certainly pick up the next book to see where it goes.
