This is a sweet, new adult book about a grad student and a professor (not her professor) that decide to fake date because it will be mutually beneficial. Of course, it morphes into something real, but there are many misunderstandings along the way. Both of the main characters grow and change throughout the story, and the main female character deals with a great deal of institutional misogyny. There is an engaging LGBTQ best friend, as well as a close friend of Asian descent.

Adorable!  I appreciated that the sexist issues that the main character faced were portrayed so clearly because toxicity in academic and science culture is a real thing and has destroyed many a promising career.   While the Ahn character didn't really read as Vietnamese specifically to me, I liked that her character highlighted the additional challenges of the intersection of racism and sexism in science, and I appreciated her "create the world you want" nature.  I loved that the main characters actually acted like scientists (which makes sense given the author's background), where the timing of experiments and the demands and exhaustion of running replications are very real.

The chemistry was quite believable and I liked how it was clear how much he adored her from the very start, and her utter obliviousness to it all.

A bit predictable and the ending was sort of rushed. But I was glued to my headphones for two days listening to this on audiobook, and I'd love to read it again.

This book is absolutely phenomenal. A beautiful college romance without any of the gross power dynamics. Any sensitive topics were approached with care and sensitivity. The chemistry (pun intended) between the ML and FL is stunning, hilarious, and adorable. All characters get an appropriate amount of time to develop and move around the plot, no wasted characters. Author does a great job dropping hints and weaving together clues so readers can arrive at plot twists at just the perfect time. Absolutely loved the realistic portrayal of friendship dynamics and academia. The author is amazing at discussing the realities of academia without ostracizing those outside of STEM. Some of the lexicon may be a bit to digest, but no other majors are ever discredited for the work they do in their own fields. This book is the perfect blend of nerdy, wholesome, and thrills.
