This was a story that made sure there was a new twist around every corner, no matter how much you think you know or what new information you just received. It kept me guessing at every page, never trusting the motivations of a single character, even the ones with the most well-meaning appearances.

A novel that seems to truly encapsulate the drama of a small town with old secrets and families whose heritage may not always align with the stories passed down. As the truth is uncovered we follow two different characters - Reverend Jack and her daughter, Flo - as they settle into their new home in Chapel Croft and find themselves right in the middle of every coverup and potential murder suspect.

I enjoyed the way the information is delivered throughout the story. We get bits and pieces that fall into place the more we learn, moving the plot along at a pace that keeps the reader from growing bored but doesn’t reveal too much too quickly.

All in all, this book was the perfect mixture of mostly-thriller-with-a-hint-of-horror that I was looking for!

Ohohohoho, she twisty.

Not so disentangle-ably twisty that you won't be able to put the pieces together yourself though. I was looking for a much more supernatural read and didn't realize I was in for something completely different. At its core, this book is entirely about relationships: the relationships that bind us to the people we meet, love, and loathe, to the places we live and leave, and to the marks we make upon the world... whether we want them to or not. Much more "thriller" than "supernatural" - can you believe that the literal ghosts of the eponymous Burning Girls are little more than a plot device? - and unfortunately just an okay way to start closing out my year of reads.

This was entertaining and I enjoyed the fast pacing / multiple storylines, but rounding down from 3.5.

That was FUN. Ghosts, exorcisms, small-town psycho killers, and a cold case mystery that resolves so satisfyingly in the last few pages - everything you could want from a foggy British horror. My only complaint is that I couldnt never keep the side characters straight from each other. I'm not religious so words like "vicar" "reverand" "pastor" "priest" and "church warden" all kind of mean the same thing to me, so to have like 5-10 men in the story with basic-ass man names like "Simon" and "Grady" being mostly identified by their relationship to the church was really difficult to track.

4,5 ⭐️

Very good book, very interesting. I loved all the writting and the whole story.

I gave 4,5⭐️ and not 5⭐️, because at the end i kind of guessed what it’s happening, but i loved it. Maybe i am the problem because i read too many books of this kind.

I just found one new favorite author!! ❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thoroughly enjoyed this read - quick, easy, dark, very engaging. Would definitely recommend it. Good twists, too. Probably my favourite Tudor novel so far.
