Some good twists and turns in the story. Very London-y.

Listened to as an audiobook via Borrowbox, narrated by Tim Piggot-Smith.

The narration was really fantastic, and helped me engage with the characters. I enjoyed the black humour and the sudden tonal shift at the climax. This is the first audiobook I have finished, so it's unfair for me to comment on the pacing of the plot or how clear the story is, as I often struggle to keep up with audiobooks much more than actual books - I'm bad at paying attention when I'm listening to things! I think, to fully appreciate this book or review it fully, I'll need to reread it in type.

I got 15% in and thought if it weren't for book club, I would just put this down. Thankfully, they made a movie version in 1996 starring Patricia Arquette and Christian Bale. So I still get to go to (virtual) book club, but I've taken back several hours of my life by watching the movie instead.

I had difficulty reading this as I just couldn't keep up the flow of my reading. I couldn't grasp what was happening and who everyone was and how they related to one another so I kept having to re-read large chunks. I read up about it afterwards and understand it better now.

Interesting to analyse and a gripping ending but difficult to understand upon first read
