If I could rate it any higher, I would.

Crooked Kingdom is a phenomenal sequel to Six of Crows, leaving the reader antsy and waiting, on the edge of their seat with every new twist and turn. Every revealed detail, paid off foreshadowing, character interaction, and planned event leaves you in a new bout of stunned silence as you listen, tense and wanting to know more.

Each character is unique, and fleshed out, meaning every chapter (each written from a different perspective) leaves you excited to learn more about that individual, and has its own personal bit of characterized flair that makes you excited to turn the page and learn who the next point-of-view is fore-- Matthias, Inej, Wylan? You just have to find out, sleep be damned.

So much weaves together to form a plot where just as one issue is resolved, you remember that ah, that's right, three chapters earlier that other plot point was introduced, and all of a sudden it's coming back-- You can't believe you forgot, but how could you not when the fate of the world was being handled first?!

The end will break your heart, as much as it heals it, giving you as many tears as it does grins as you flip through the ending chapters and realize just how much has been lost...and how much is being rebuilt.

Unlike the first book of this series, this one managed to be well paced and balanced with the plot and its world-building.  Although I didn't /want/ the book to end, the ending fit beautifully for (most of) the characters.

Crooked Kingdom is overrated.

While Six of Crows was exciting and had a definite purpose, Crooked Kingdom centered around cleaning up the mess from the previous book and getting out of town. It was slow and almost introspective for each character. Those who fell in love with the characters of Six of Crows and want more from them will enjoy it - those who are looking for an exciting plotline will get bored. It's an underwhelming story with the same excellent depth of world and character-building.

I wonder if I'd reread this one, even though I would reread Six of Crows. I expected more after the intricate plotting of the first book and felt let down by Leigh Bardugo. My thoughts will not reflect everyone's experience, but no matter what other readers say, it was my experience.

If Six of Crows was a 5 star read, Crooked Kingdom is the entire galaxy.

Never have I ever read a book where there are more than 3 main characters and I loved them all equally. CK took everything that SoC excelled at and then just made it like a thousand times better which I didn't even know was possible. I fell even more in love with these characters as their backstories were explored deeper and they got to face their challenges. Multiple times, the plot got me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, sending my prayers to the Saints.
Spoiler like the sugar silos scene or the auction scene for example
The relationships was just perfect and got me squealing. I loved not knowing what exact scheme the big brained Kaz had come up with and wondering which parts were going according to plan and which were plot twists. And the ending was just chef's kiss.

CK easily became my favourite in the duology and also one of my favourite books of all times
