Good story about first love lost then found again. That it is a true story makes it even better.
Shawn Inmon's autobiographical tale reads less like a novel and more like an online journal. He tells the story of finding his first love, losing her and finding her again decades later. It's a sweet and sentimental story, but I feel like it moved slowly and included details I just really didn't need to know about. For example, I didn't really care that Inmon used Groupon coupons to finance a Valentine's Day dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House. Somehow that spoiled the romance for me. My favorite element of the book was the recurring musical references and fact that the name of every chapter was a song.
I give this 3.5 stars. It was a little boring. The story was cute. I didn't realize it was a true story until the end which is why I am giving it 3.5 stars. If you like to read true love stories then it is worth the read.
It seemed a little weird to me that the Dawn's family had so much to say about the relationship but Shawn's family really said nothing. You would think that the reason that they broke up that Shawn's family would have something to say but there was nothing. I felt like we skipped over the college years and didn't hear anything about what was happening with Dawn. We didn't know if she went to college or anything about what happend career-wise when she graduated high school.
It was still a cute read. If it wasn't a true story I would have given it 2.5 stars.

My mom loaned me this through Kindle loan services after reading because she said she just knew I'd love it. This book is one of the best self-published works I've read in quite a while. Shawn and Dawn have a beautiful love story that lasts even as time passes and their lives go different directions because of outside forces. It's strong enough to bring them together again. Hope-filled and beautiful.
This appears to be the true story of the author’s romance with his wife. I thought it was a little long, but I’m sure every minute detail is important to him so I understand. This is the story of a man reconnecting with his true love after many years. It is worth the read.
What an incredibly sweet piece of non-fiction. I don't care for romance novels, but took a chance on this because it was non-fiction and had an interesting plot. A compelling, well-told story, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to be moved.
I'm kind of torn on this book. I liked it, but there were things that drove me bonkers. I felt like almost like the past and present sections were written in different styles. The stuff from the 70's read like a novel while the stuff in the 2000's read like a blog mixed with a really cheesy romance novel. I think it's great that this is a true story but there were times in the last few chapters where I would groan because it felt fake and too perfect to be real. I also started to feel like Shawn was kind of creepy in a way for hanging on to Dawn when she was pretty clear several times that she was done with him. I did feel for them though and was happy things worked out for the best. I also absolutely loved the link to the photos... That bumped a 3.5 star rating up to 4 stars.
Wow!!!
This is not a romance, at least not a typical one. It is a love story. A true one. One that will touch your heart and take you on a ride of innocence, heartbreak and eventually you to a place of contentment and happiness.
I actually picked this book up on accident. I was searching for another book with a similar synopsis but had forgotten the title and I thought this one was it. Even though it wasn't the book I was searching for, I am so glad I found this one.
This book was a great trip down memory lane for me. I also grew up in the 70's and early 80's in a small town. I loved all the musical and time period references. It reminded me of how different life was back then.
Shawn and Dawns story is one of innocence, love, and tragedy. True love found too young at a time when they didn't and couldn't have control over the direction of their own lives. People and circumstances tore them apart. It would be thirty years before chance and Shawn's undying love would eventually put them together again.
This story put me through a wide spectrum of emotions. I laughed, cried, and got angry but mostly this story touched my soul.
Shawn thank you for sharing your story and letting me come along for the ride. I am so happy that you and Dawn got your "Happy Ever After".
