Great retelling

Overall though the book was great. The way she was able to weave certain characters and key parts of the classic fairytale in to this modern retake was very clever.

I liked this enough I guess, but I really thought it just lacked depth.

I’m not gonna lie - I got sucked in by booktok on this one, specifically because of the whole praise kink thing, which apparently, I’m into now lmao. Though, even that aspect was lacking, in my opinion.

I think I just made the mistake of expecting too much. I will never learn! However, it was an easy, enjoyable read. Just didn’t illicit any strong feelings in me, ya feel?

Wowwww, this book was so freaking good! Let me just say that I was “HOOKED” from start till finish. Hook & Wendy were very well done characters and I loved the backstory even though it was really sad. It added a lot and was needed for the story. The plot and spice were amazing as well.

My only complaint is that Wendy was too forgiving and too fast. Hook was a villain and did her wrong so I wished there would have been more groveling. Although I didn’t mind the villain in Hook. I loved that Wendy had her badass moment at the end but the conflict resolution felt a bit rushed and wrapped up too quickly in my opinion.

Overall, I liked this a lot!!!

"You want to watch the world burn?"
"Let me guess, you'll set it on fire?"
"No, darling. I'll hand you the match, and stand at your back, watching you become queen of the ashes."

This bookkkk yep yep yep. The way James always knew what to say...I had so many lines highlighted! That man gave me whiplash with his moods but in the best way haha. My heart goes out to Wendy and the way she grew from the beginning of the book had me smiling, but I love that no matter what her snark and darker side was always there. The banquet scene...if I was drinking I definitely would've spit my drink. I loved the way these two interacted so much, they complimented each other perfectly.

I also loved the writing style and the plot was so engaging. There were a few predictable aspects but they were perfectly balanced by the scenes that caught me off guard (the amount of times I sat up in bed like WAIT-).

I loved this Peter Pan retelling and I can't wait to read more of Emily's books in the future!!
