This was so good, a slow-burn thriller that had me as charmed by the gorgeous Southern setting as I was fascinated by the plot itself! I didn’t pick the twist at all, and love that the ending left just enough unsettled to whet my appetite for book two in this series (out soon!)

The plot follows Harper McClain, a young journalist, investigating a murder that almost exactly mirrors the murder of her own mother fifteen years prior (the “echo killing”).

The unfurling of the plot was so well paced and had me totally hooked! I read most of this as an audiobook and highly recommend - the narrator (Sophie Amoss) was spectacular at bringing Harper to life!

All I can say is I hope Christi Daugherty writes more books about Harper McClain.
This is the first book in the series; and the second book I've read in the series (yes, I read them backwards LOL). I love this series. These books perspective is from a crime reporter; and it is fascinating to me. I've been reading majority from the eyes of the detectives; and this is a nice way to view the same kind of crimes but from a different point of view.
Harper is a charismatic, spitfire of a woman. When she was 12 she discovered her mother murdered on the kitchen floor. That incident formed the woman she is today. The murdered was never caught; and the murder in this book is identical to how her mother was killed. Does Harper finally get the satisfaction of helping catch her mother's killer? Or will that be saved for a future book.

I really liked this one! Excellent, unforgettable characters. Harper is an interesting, dogged reporter with a tragic past. I would have given it 5 stars except I knew who the killer was from the beginning. And I'm one who never knows who it is. This book was very reminiscent of one I've read this year (Final Girls, I think), so maybe it was more that the plot triggered that book for me.

Entertaining! Not the most plot twisty or shocking, but I still fell for the characters. I enjoyed the Savannah setting, too.

This is an excellent thriller: fast paced, interesting story and characters and well written. Though not exactely a short book, I read it in a very short time as I could not put it away. It was one of thos books that keeps you guessing about who and later (when you have suspicions on the why). I can really recommend it to thriller fans

Set in Savannah Georgia this is the first book in the Harper McClain Series. Harper is a reporter for the local newspaper. She sleeps with a police scanner and is constantly on the hunt for front page news. When she is called out to a murder in a fancy side of town Harper discovers a scene that is very familiar to her. As a 12 year old girl is lead out of the house after finding her mother dead Harper starts to flash back to when she was 12 and found her mother murdered on the kitchen floor.

Feeling that the two killings are connected Harper pursues this story with a vengeance hoping to solve not only this murder but the murder of her own mother.

Harper knows cops she has been a fixture at the local police station since she was 12 and the detectives all took her under their wing. However Harper uses this connection to dig deeper into her mothers murder and may be burning some bridges along the way.

This is a great mystery, thriller. Harper is very believable as the devoted journalist doggedly pursuing her story at all costs. The mystery however may be opening old cases that are better left buried and Harper is finding herself in more and more danger. The emotions run high in this book and I felt myself getting very involved and invested in helping Harper find the killer.

I stumbled upon these books and I'm glad I did, I really love Harper's character, the hot all consuming weather and all the other characters. This is a great start to a series.

Harper McClain has a busy job as a crime reporter who works very closely with the police. As beautiful as her environment is in stunning Savannah, Georgia, it is that very beauty that Harper sees very little of. What she sees is the deep, dark life that exists as some of the city's residents commit gruesome crimes. She is the survivor of one such crime. It was Harper herself who discovered the broken body of her brutally murdered mother. A murder that was never solved.

Harper's search for the identify of her mother's killer has led her to be the very best in her field. Even if she wanted to put her past behind her, it is truly impossible. Well, one night, while with the police during the investigation and her reporting at the scene of a violent homicide, Harper cannot help but get the eerie sense that the murder now and that of her mother are nearly identical -- down to a young girl, a survivor, being led away from the police. Oh, just too familiar.

Defying her boss - and the police - Harper begins digging deeply. She also digs back to her own past, even delving into records she has no access to. It may have been fifteen years for Harper, but the memories are all too vivid, and thanks in large part to the current case. No doubt things become quite dangerous for Harper. It will be any wonder if she manages to get away safe.

The Echo Killing is a fast-paced, suspense filled story and is a great start to a new series. The next book in the series, A Beautiful Corpse, was another fantastic read.
