Audiobook
This one requires you to suspend disbelief - there are some crazy twists and turns. It was entertaining though.

The first book in this series was by far my favorite.  I've been listening to the audiobook and the narrator isn't great. He isn't horrible, but not fabulous. If the narrator is better that might change the rating for me. In general I like all the characters although I became extremely annoyed at Cork when he goes against Jo's wishes and starts asking questions about something he shouldn't be. Her reasoning makes perfect sense to me and Cork thinking that he knows better is incredibly annoying. But I will give him a pass as all in all he is a likable character. I did have an inkling of who the murderer was, but I wasn't definite. I will finish out this series.

This mystery series is extremely solid. The pace is quick and the imagery is beautiful. This book in particular had quite a few unexpected twists and turns.

Cork O’Connor investigates the murder of a high school student who is not who she first seems to be. This book had lots of reflections on faith and religion gone wrong. I was glad to see the further development of Rose in this book of the series!

Favorite quote: “Cork didn’t believe anyone was purely and simply anything. All human beings, it seemed to him, were a collection of conflicting impulses stuffed into one skin, trying somehow to find peace.”

I enjoyed this story a lot. The twist towards the end was unique and unexpected. I do think it needed a little bit of editing. There was some repetition in the dialogue.
