The characters in this book were so interesting because I could never figure out what the next move was. I didn’t feel fully into this book & really feeling invested until the last part of the book. It definetly took some twists and turns!

I really enjoyed this!!! It’s heavy, being that it centers around a sexual assault case and was written during the time of the #metoo movement, but the book itself was extremely well-done and the audio, narrated by Marin Ireland, was fantastic!

Read if you like:

This book was gross. Rapist sympathizer’s perspective. I did not see the twist toward the end, it it was gross all around.

I found this book to be very slow moving and pretty boring at times, at least initially. The characters were just so shallow and unlikable but I think the author’s intent was to portray them this way. The book became more interesting after a twist over halfway through but it was still difficult to read due to the sexual abuse content. I do think that it’s important to address this type of abuse and acknowledge that it exists. Read a light-hearted book after this one.

I should have listened to my trusted sources and skipped this one. I ended up DNFing at 75% because it took an icky, awful turn. I could appreciate the book for the first 25% even though there are no likeable characters and the narrator is unreliable. But then I was really turned off around 50% when something is revealed about the narrator. I was still willing to continue until the 75% mark when I decided it wasn’t worth my time to continue.

SPOILER ALERT RIGHT HERE. STOP IF YOU CARE.

HELL TO THE NO WITH THE INCEST AND SEXUAL MANIPULATION AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF A CHILD AND CREEPINESS AND WATCHING PORNOGRAPHY WITH A CHILD AND WTAF DID THIS BOOK TURN INTO I THOUGHT IT WAS *JUST* ABOUT A RAPE?

DNF’d at about 60% but rating and reviewing anyway because I absolutely HATED IT.

This was an excellent mystery. I was quite engaged and immersed in this story about a wealthy family and how they struggled through the events and publicity after the youngest son is accused of rape and sexual assault. The protagonist is the daughter, Cassie, who is actually not truly a family member but was taken in as a toddler after her parents died. She is convinced her brother is innocent, that it’s a vindictive and unstable ex girlfriend who is making the complaint out of anger for being rebuffed.

Slowly, secrets from Cassie's private life start to be revealed and you soon understand that these impact the family dynamics and indeed the behavior of her brother.

This was so well done, that I’m still thinking about, several days after finishing the book. I highly recommend it.

Gripping

Just wow! I have read quite a few heavy reads lately and this one was no different. Before you pickup this book make sure you check the Trigger Warnings because there are so many! I was absolutely shocked by some of the revelations in this story and there were moments when it was really hard to keep reading. Not every character got the ending I was hoping for, but some of the, did.
