Pretty good noir story, but I really didn't care for the art.

This is a surprisingly good story. It begins with a murder and segues into clues and sources. Nothing is revealed until the last minute. The nitty gritty of San Francisco is displayed while depicting the unique agriculture of the city.

That's the absolute last time I read something based on a glowing review on Boing Boing.

If the closeted cousin of the movie Chinatown had a three-way baby with Max Allan Collins and Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer books, it would look like this, if it were a graphic novel. Every cliche has been dumped into this book and mixed with just enough two-fisted rye whiskey to lull you into thinking you know what's going to happen next, and then it jumps out from behind a shipping container and has back-alley sex with you. This book, part of DC Vertigo's crime line, is really weird, and I rollercoasted as to whether or not I was enjoying it right up to very end, which I guess means I liked it.
