This book (200 pages/6 hours) started out good but as it progressed I lost interest. I got through the first 90% in a few days in June, and then barely did the last 10% almost 2 months later. I can't even remember any particular piece that impacted me. I think my reading of Eckart Tolle's A New Earth (336 pages/9 hours) years ago impacted my views on this book since the books' concepts are very similar. Singer's style is more plain English. They both cover the "inner voice" or ego (including negative thoughts and fear). They both support meditation as a means to get past the voice. I think Singer talks more about death than Tolle -- as a means to gain perspective and stay grounded. Both authors believe in the power of the present moment. Had I read Singer first, I might have given this book a better rating.

Perhaps if I came to this book before reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, I might have enjoyed it more. I think there is simple truth in this book but I found it very repetitive without really giving any clear pointers for HOW.

I found myself rereading passages not because I didn't understand, but because my mind would begin to wander, perhaps that was one reason I found it repetitive. The author finds many ways to say the same thing, making it difficult to get through. I don't regret reading it, because I do think it was helpful to remind myself about what I have been working on in my life's journey -- being present, letting go, sitting in the seat of the conscious observer, etc., but I still found myself wanting more than the author gave here.

Description is incorrect, this book contains plenty of religious references and vague advice that isn't helpful.

I agree with the Philosophy of the book but it is VERY redundant. Which is why I only gave it an 8.

It’s a good book though!

Might come back to this later, but about halfway through the circular rambling and lack of any practical or instructional advice is giving me a headache. Perhaps this is just not the book for me.
