This had a similar layout to You Do You: Proud to Be Fabulous with two hosts and a series of LGBT+ stories. Like that one the stories are equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking. The two hosts had some cringy moments but I will say their banter felt much more natural than in You Do You.

Coming Out Party

I Picked Up This Book Because: Needed a short read to tie up the month..

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: Audible
Dates Read: 5/31/24
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Narrator(s): Nikki Levy, Shangela, et al

The Story:
Quick stories of coming out, first loves and awkward situations. I enjoyed them as they were all told in a comical style, like you were watching a panel at a convention.

Very cute audible freebie that details a few actors/comedians coming out stories. This was created back during the heart of the pandemic, which they touch on and it's wild to be brought back in time to the heightened quarantine and social distancing. Author Nikki Levy and one of my fav drag queens, Shangela, host this pride day special and add small versions of their own stories and cute, funny commentary. There's not a ton of substance here other than sweet stories and a nice peek into these comedians/actors' lives. I do think it's sweet to celebrate these proud, vulnerable stories, and it's nice that it ranges in perspectives. Like we get cis gay and lesbian stories on top of a trans one. But they're pretty sure and there's not further added to draw them together or add more, though I didn't expect that since it's so short. it's very sweet and good production value considering, I enjoyed it very much for what it was.

This was a lot of fun to listen to!

Coming Out Party was just fun from start to finish. It just gave off such fun, happy, and light vibes. I loved getting all the little stories within it - especially when we got to Jake and Daniel. Ever since I met Jake on Grey's - I fell in love. So it definitely made me smile to hear him on this audio!

Then there's Daniel, oh lord - I laughed so hard about his interaction with Obama. Now I get it, I mentioned two people out of the rest of the amazing people on this - don't worry! I loved them all, seriously I did!! Each story just made me smile and I really loved hearing people talk about their experience of coming out, their first kiss, or just being okay and open with themselves/the world.

Definitely recommend this to everyone because they should listen to it. Oh, and it's Pride Month bitches!

I Loved This!

The stories were funny, touching and real. And sometimes a shocker. But they are needed as so many young people either do not have a voice or are afraid to use their voice because of retaliation. The morals in each story is important.
