Im giving this 5 stars, not because I liked it, because the subject matter can’t be something anyone would LIKE. The subject matter of this book, being based on a true story, being as horrific as it is will stick with me for a long time. It left me feeling nauseous and defeated but the writing was amazing. The way the author conveyed the depravity and callousness was chilling.

Slower start then I expected, but when things picked up it was unending. One punch to the gut after another. I know what was coming from the first second but still had the air knocked out of me when I turned to that page.

"She moved her lips. Then smiled.

'I think I'm going to make it,' she said, and reached for Susan's hand. 'I think I'll be fine.'

In the artificial glare of the work light, in the dawn that for us was not a dawn, she died."

I know that this book will stick with me and always leave that lingering stomach ache.

I'm not sure where to start. Obviously I knew this was a violent book but I could not stomach the ways in which the author tried to give the narrator some sort of moral ambivolence and the ending message of
Spoiler that really you are judged by your last action not all of the ways you were complicit in horrible things before that was ridiculous to me.
. Perhaps it felt more upsetting because I was listening to it on an audio book but I really wouldn't reccomend this book at all. If you're at all interested in this case I'm sure there are podcasts you can listen to that would give you all the info without the attempted moral ambiguity.
