I read this one in one sitting. It triggered me, but I couldn't stop reading it. I read it via audiobook, which I highly recommend. It's narrated by January LaVoy, my all-time favorite narrator.

Trigger warnings for rape (there were several graphic scenes), attempted rape, sexual assault, physical abuse, cancer, child molestation (off page), violence

Wow. This book is DARK and it brings you through so many conflicting emotions that it’s tough to keep up. I found myself struggling throughout this book to determine which characters I liked, which I had sympathy for, which I was rooting for – and even now that I’ve finished the book, I’m still not entirely sure for any of these.

For the first half of the book, I got a “Orange is the New Black” vibe, as the main character is carted off to prison where she serves a five-year sentence. But the second half is completely different. The second half is haunting and while you think you know what’s going on, there are so many secrets that have not even been revealed to the reader.

Just when you think you can assume how this book will wrap up, it throws you another curveball and you end up scratching your head with your jaw dropped open all over again.

I could not put this book down. Each chapter was so gripping and the twists and turns unravelled themselves so neatly. I did not see the final reveal coming but the others did become obvious fairly early on.
I loved Kaiser and just wanted the best for him.
I found some scenes in the prison to be a bit slow but a part from that I really enjoyed the book.
