Did a good job with complicated characters but didn’t always provide any moralizing around bullying behaviors - there was a whole lot of it presented in the book without judgement, which may come off to YA younger readers as confusing or even as implicitly supporting.

Vera's story was cute and heartfelt, showing her finding the place she fits and that she's happy with. Super sweet story.

This book was such an emotional rollercoaster. The main character, Vera was very human throughout this book. She made alot of good and bad choices. I liked that Vera never gave up and continued to find her way in camp. She made the best of a rough situation and became a better person for it. The title, Be Prepared is apt for this book. 5\5

Vera shares about her summer camp in a style that flows as smoothly as fiction. She opens up about feeling Other because of her Russian family and customs, and because her family was low-income and couldn't do things quite the same way as her more wealthy friends. The sleepover scene was heartbreaking. It was fun watching her learn and grow at camp.

What a joyous read! I tend to gravitate to books about camp for some reason, and this one made me love the subject matter even more. The author’s story was told so effectively through graphic novelization, which is always a plus for me when I see that as the best medium for a story. I can see myself revisiting this one.
