"Killian had never been jealous of his brothers until then. He had always been the one who secretly wanted a mate, unlike them, and yet, he was being denied her by Fate. Even in his years of playing the whore, he had always searched for her. His promised one."

Killian's story was the one I was looking forward to the most. He is the Night prince and his curse is killing anyone he touches, so he has been devoid of any form of intimate contact in 1500 years. As if this wasn't already depressing, the fact that of his brothers he's the one who craved having a mate the most because of how in love his parents were makes it worse, since he's had to watch both his brothers find their mates and be happy while he wilts away in loneliness. This sets the expectation that of course the one person who can touch his skin would be his fated mate, but the plot ended up intriguing me more than I expected.

Enter in Bronaugh Ironwood, who is, essentially the BADDEST bitch.
She is sent on a job to track down the Night prince and deliver him to the client.

Side note: I had a suspicion about who the client was cause ain't no way Killian's goofy ass got kidnapped for three years and Elise of all people didn't raise hell lmao.

Bron is a fighter, serious as hell, and a great contrast to the prince of sex who's always joking and aloof. It makes their interactions 10x more hilarious. For instance:

"Bron looked him dead in the eye. "Turn around and pull down your pants." His answering chuckle was filthier than the floor she was standing on. "I thought you said it wasn't that kind of proposition." Bron didn't blink. "It's not. This deal is only for the Night Prince, and I need irrevocable proof that you are him." He raised a single black brow. "And showing you my ass will do that?" "I'm not interested in your ass, but the scar on your thigh.""

I was in tears 🤣🤣

Not to mention their spicy scenes?? Loooordt, nothing less can be expected from the sexiest prince of them all.
Bron's not the only one with a wing kink now..... >_>

"Before she could back out of it, Bron untied her robe and let it drop to the carpet. Killian's eyes went as wide as saucers. "Ah. Ironwood. Look, about the bargain, I didn't mean it had to be fulfilled straight away. I was hoping to clear up the mess with whoever wants me dead, and then I could call that bargain in sometime after... I mean, when you wanted it... Can you put your robe back on? I can't focus.""

I just love how he's still a gentleman and wanted to take her out first even though he has 1500 years of pent up sexual frustration. Aaaaagh, my heart.

""If you want something done," she said with a devilish smile. She touched the silver cuff on her wrists, and his manacles locked together above his head. He tried to move, but they fused to one of the metal posts of the bed head."

AND HOW DOMINANT BRON WAS BEING? GIRL YEEESSS. I'm crushing on them both.

Okay, okay, lemme reel myself in.
Let's talk about how funny as shit Bron's sisters are.

"Bron? I'm really happy no one hurt Killian." Moira tangled her fingers into King's fur. "He's your friend, isn't he?" Bron frowned. "What makes you say that?" "He makes your eyes smile, even if your face isn't. That's how I know when you really like someone."

Moira is so adorable and sassy. She's so precious my heart cannot take it.

"I don't care if you are having an emotional crisis because a super-hot fae wants to be your fuck buddy for life. Boohoo, however will you cope with a gorgeous male worshipping your mean brown ass? Pity party is over, now get moving."

Imogen had me in literal tears at 3 AM reading this.

Sidenote: Based on the author's note at the end of the book, this sets up the Ironwood spin off series and I'm so excited to read Imogen's story. I need more of her sass omg.

Now that all my fangirling is out of the way.... there were a couple elements that were a little lacking for me.

First off,
how super possessive and attached Bron and Killian became of each other. It got a tad cringy, ngl.

I also wanted to see more of Morrigan in the plot. There was a decent build up to it, but, uhhhhhhh

"An angel of death was falling from the sky, a sword above her head and emerald green magic exploding out of her. Morrigan sensed it too late, black eyes widening as Bron landed on her, the black sword driving into the goddess's back. Morrigan shrieked, a sound of horror so otherworldly that the spell on the crowd broke, and people fell, covering their ears. Bron rolled to her feet and positioned herself in front of Killian. She screamed a battle cry right back at the dying goddess."

....How are you going to introduce an entire goddess as a villain to the story, then have her ass taken tf out by a newly mated human out of pure rage and jealousy??????

Just can't sign off on that, chief.

Other than that, though, it was a very enjoyable read and I'm excited to get my hands on the Ironwood series.
