Helena Hunting never disappoints! She is the queen of uniquely, quirky female leads and Ruby is right up at the top of my all time favorites.

Trying to prove you aren’t a failure to anyone, especially someone you love, can be a daunting thing. The chemistry between Ruby and Bane was electrifying and intoxicating. I loved Ruby’s initiative to not sulk over things that don’t go her way. Instead she takes action, finds something to get her back on her feet, and make something of herself. She knew what she wanted and went for it without other peoples options stopping her. Ruby’s independence was refreshing, proving to herself she could do it. With all the ups and downs that Ruby and Bane had to go though, they came out better then ever.

I love when I can find a good Rom com book I can not put down. There were plenty of laugh out moments that had me giggling during my late night reading. The banter between the two main characters is great.

New material from an author you love, is always a little nerve wracking. New characters, new setting, new everything. As a reader you are hopeful, that this new material will give all the elements you love from this author. A sassy, smart, heroine, with her own set of issues, crazy or serious. A handsome, athletic type, with all the right attributes to tick of your book boyfriend check list. A best friend, that is supportive, that calls your heroine on her BS. Throw in a cute and or prickly pet, to fall in love with. Then add in the last bit of chemistry and a ton of angst. This is what Helena Hunting brings to the table with Shacking Up.....
Ruby and Bane literally crush into one anothers faces the first time they met. What transpires after that initial face crush, leads Ruby and Bane down a crazy, winding road, of lust, flirting, angst and eventually love. I was a little worried at first about Ruby. I was getting some major Violet vibes, and we all love Violet from the Pucked books, but I didn't need another version of her. I wanted a fresh take. I got over it pretty quickly, as Ruby's story developed. She is a far cry from the nutty beast, Violet is. I actually came to love her.
I honestly like how they initially met. How one kiss, even when it's a case of mistaken identity can ignite that spark between two people. Albeit, the kiss would prove to be an epic career derailment to Ruby, and bring her back into Bane's world. The minute Ruby moves in. temporarly, Bane is off to Europe to help set up a hotel for his father's company. Their chemistry is off the charts in the beginning, and leaves us all wanting more. I liked that they really developed their relationship through FaceTime or Skype. It gave them the opportunity to get to know one another, without jumping the gun and falling right into bed. Even though they both really want that, but can't figure out how to tell one another. Bring on the ANGST.
I am going to be honest, I struggled with the pace of the first half of this book. The pacing was good, but slow burn books are tough for me. I will say this...once the fire starts, it's HOT HOT HOT. I should have known better, because Helena will always reward her readers for their patience. I don't like to give out any spoilers, and I am not going to prattle on about the plot. If you are fan of Helena's writing, then you know the writing stands on it's own. Just be patient, and give Ruby and Bane's story time to build. The story has it's moments...I chuckled in a few places, and wanted to throw my Kindle across the room in others.
I just have to point out here, that Amie's fiancee is a JERK with the a capital ERK. I am hoping that down the road Amie gets her own book and kicks that JERKFACE to the curb. I realize the subplot is important, and no doubt we will get our answers, eventually.

This one had me at 'rugby player'.
Just everything about Shacking Up made me want to read it as fast as possible. There was just something about the style of writing and the characters. Sometimes, I find it extremely hard to empathise with certain characters, but Bane and Ruby are just so likeable.
Shacking Up was a lovely, sweet read and is perfect at the end of a stressful day.
And, to be honest, Bancroft is just so swoon-worthy that it makes you want to have one of your own.

Everything about their slow burn of a romance was just like balm for the soul. I loved how it wasn't rushed or anything, but especially all those phone calls and teasing text messages to heat things up.Shacking Up was a lovely, sweet read and is perfect at the end of a stressful day.

This was my first Helena Hunting books. Everyone has always been raving about how awesome and funny her books are. I dove in with high hopes...
I am not sure what to say. This was a very slow read for me. I struggled through most of it. I can recognize why people love her books. However, for me, I need more to keep my interest. I only giggled a few times. Maybe my humor button was broken when I read this?
I didn't particularly care for the characters. They didn't catch me in the way I like characters to. I found them lacking, forced.
The plot was unique enough. Like I said before though. It went too slow for me. It just didn't keep my attention. I wouldn't say this is a bad book, but I am definitely not over the moon about it. Will I read others of Helena's books in the future? Most likely. I am not counting her out.
