Because I'm such a quick reader, I tend to plow on through books I'm finding tedious or problematic, even if it's mostly skimming. However, I'm working on bailing more frequently if there are signs early on.

The quarter of the book I read was a constant verbal volley between two characters that did not sound all that different to me. This book was free on Kindle, and I downloaded it bc the heroine was described as plus-sized. It was another case of a fat character who has a perfect pin-up figure, but was still tormented by her family and friends until her self-esteem was dust.

Also, by the 27% mark, I legitimately couldn't tell what the conflict was going to be. They had already decided to date and were sharing their life stories with no real hesitation. So, I assumed it would either be more of the same non-story for another two hundred pages, or some real wacky plot twists would be forced upon the reader. So, I gave up. (Now that I think about it, they probably were going to bring back the opening scene where the heroine's food truck is vandalized/part of a crime. I rolled my eyes so hard that she was allowed to be present while the truck was processed for evidence and tried to get them to save sugar decorations AND was allowed to 'sign out' tools to work on the wedding cake she was baking? NOPE. Also, if I never read about another plus-sized character who works as a baker, I'll be JUST FINE.)

I didn't give it a rating, and I'm not counting it toward my yearly goal, but I'm side-eyeing the 4.62 star rating this book has. It is not well-crafted. It needs more distinctive voices and probably at least one more thorough edit than it got.
