This was a deeply formative book for me. The reconstructions of the animals is very outdated now, but the way the story was grounded in what was at the time cutting edge science makes it timeless. A xenofiction classic.

Very fun read, it was really interesting & refreshing reading a book from the point of view of the animal itself rather than another human protagonist like most books.
Raptor Red is a gorgeous animal, and I loved reading about her jouney and how she coped with certain situations!

Narrative from the point of view of a Utahraptor named Red, interspersed with lots of informational tidbits about Utahraptors and other dinosaurs, as well as the general environment at that time.

My god this is 100% the book that 10-year-old me would have obsessed over. I would have reread this countless times and drawn comics of my favorite moments. I’m surprised I never knew about it. I found some of the scientific explanations a bit distracting from the flow of the story but I don’t care because I ate it all up.
