Of all of the perspectives in this series, Qibli's was probably the most difficult for me (well, it's a toss up between his and Winter's). While it's obvious he'll make the right decisions in the end, it really is sort of awful having to watch him come so close to making bad decisions because he thirsts for power--even if it's for the right reasons.
I love Qibli's personality for the most part (especially his insistence on being besties with Winter) and I love how smart and quick thinking he is. I love being able to revisit some familiar characters in the Sand Kingdom with him, too.
If I have any complaints about this book, it would just be that it felt long compared to the others (which, of course, it is). It felt like the majority of the plot happened in this one book. That said, all of the drama and terror of the ending few chapters made the stakes feel very high (honestly, they've felt very high the whole series) and the payoff seemed so earned.

lust for power. Childhood neglect and found family.
Lots more, and fabulous wrapped up, complete with an epilogue offering snapshots from each of the 5 main characters. Plus a book for the next series that I’m struggling to resist, curse it all!
Kudos for again finding peaceful, workable solutions to impending inevitable conflict!

Moderate: Xenophobia and Abandonment
Minor: Animal cruelty, Genocide, Violence, Death of parent, Fire/Fire injury, Gaslighting, and War
Some side characters are briefly enchanted to change personalities/forget themselves.cherrymandering's review against another edition

This is another one of my favorite Wings of Fire books. Qibli is such an interesting character and I love how Sutherland crafted his POV. I really liked how this book compared Qibli and Darkstalker, emphasizing the parallels between them. Also, I really enjoyed Qibli and Winter's dynamic. They're just so much fun to read about! The conclusion of this book was also really well done with a great build up and a creative conclusion. The one thing I mildly disliked about this book was how little time Moon and Qibli actually spent together. And, of the time they did spend together, little of it was really exploring and deepening their relationship. Other than that, though, I had a great time reading this book.
