The book contains over 30 essays written by writers such as Montaigne, Francis Bacon, Charles Lamb, Robert Louis Stephenson and Mary E. Coleridge. The subjects covered range from the philosophical “Of Wisdom for a Man’s Self” to the historical “The Tombs of Westminster Abbey” to the more quaint “Gardens”
These essays are not the academic type with bibliography and citations, but more like modern day blogs. An individual has something to say on a subject and simply writes about it.
It’s not an easy read but I particularly liked the essays written by Mary E. Coleridge.
