This is the most obvious case of a British author writing a story set in America and it really took me out of the story. Pippa is the most British name I can think of, and boy was she annoying! The protagonist does horrible things and is so smug and self righteous about it like she did nothing wrong. Since it’s fiction I knew she’d be right about the boyfriend being innocent, but in real life, she’s a horribly selfish girl who listened to too many true crime podcasts and decided to retraumatize a family for her own entertainment and fulfillment. The story rips off Pretty Little Liars, Twin Peaks, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, and it’s nowhere near as good as any of those, plus some dog murder in there for good measure. Did not enjoy.
