What a great book, I couldn’t put it down! Filled with adventures unheard of for a 13 year old girl from a proper family the story will grab you too. Then throw in a surprise ending with twists along the way and you realize that this is writing at its finest. Highly recommend this book!

It gets 5 stars purely because when we finished it my niece (who hates reading and especially hates historical fiction) said "I really liked that book".
But also because I think this book being read to me in the 6th grade was vital to my character development.

Is a rare book that's exactly the same experience as a kid and as an adult. I learned a lot from this book when I encountered it new in my early teens. I found one quote I had misattributed (though the setting explained why I made that mistake).

I love this book. I might give a copy to a friend's 9-year-old for Christmas this year

It really is more of a 4.5 star rating. I read this in more like a week

Loved this book as a middle schooler, but now as an adult rereading it, I can see where things are a little far-fetched. How did Charlotte become so proficient on the ship and strong enough to be climbing the main mast in just a few days after deciding to join the crew? It seems like a corseted girl of her station would not be strong enough to hold her own on the ship. And the men making her a captain? Great book to dream about what a girl can do, just don't think about it too hard.
