This is pretty good and I had fun with it. Charlotte's development and growth are well done.

Apparently, this is a classic children's novel that I have never read before! I enjoyed this, as it had some grit without being obscene. There's mystery, adventure, and a healthy dose of social commentary. Just because she's independent and likes "boy" things doesn't mean she's unnatural!

My rating is maybe definitely influenced by intense nostalgia for this, one of my favorite childhood books.

I was forced to read this in the 6th grade and I couldn't stand Charlotte Doyle and the sheer unbelievability that this loser 12 year old participated in a mutiny and became the captain of a ship.
