yeahh this one definitely isn't one of jane austen's best. i did love the strong relationship between the dashwood sisters, as well as their relationship with their mother. however i disliked all of the love interests (especially col brandon ending up with marianne? ew). however i'm going to see a production of it this summer (my family outvoted my case for hamlet 3) and wanted the background.

now onto emma, which promises a much better time!

I'm not sure why, but I'm always a bit wary reading Jane Austen. She has such a stylized and witty way of writing, which is fantastic, but I fear I won't get the emotional attachment to the characters that I always look forward to when reading a book. However, Austen proves me wrong once again. I loved Sense and Sensibility, simply loved it! I have always loved the movie and when reading the book, I am now of the opinion that Emma Thompson totally deserved the oscar for adapted screenplay. Anyway, it's a fantastic story. I loved the characters, particularly Elinor, and loved seeing Marianne's change in her character. I could go on listing everything I loved, but in short, if I were to describe Sense and Sensibility in one word, it would be "lovely".

Emma & Sense & Sensibility were the two Austens I struggled with in my younger years & didn't finish. I loved Emma when I gave it another chance last year, but... I still don't love Sense & Sensibility.

Great beginning, mind you - the scene between John & his grasping wife Fanny was bitingly funny. But parts of this book were rather dull, then just when my attention was wandering, Austen would deliver another witty line. This sustained me to the end, even though I no longer cared who or if Elinor & Marianne would marry!

My least favourite from the "Big 6" of Austen's works & one I'm unlikely to read again.

not austen’s best but i really love the growth between the female leads AND ELINOR IS SO . I LOVE HER SO MUCH. i didnt really care much for the men since they didn’t really move my heart compared to other austen males but what makes this book so special is the sisterhood and the social critique!
