This book covers so much. It's charming and sad and messy (in a good way). It's extremely relevant. During the 6 days I read it, I had 4 conversations on it that convince other people to read it. 

Sexism in the work place is still horrible and very much there, it's gotten better since Elizabeth Zott's time. But regardless this is an extremely relatable. I was beaming when Zott uplifted women and tried her best. 6:30 was charming and probably my favorite character. 

I however HATE this cover. I'm sure if you look it up, the author also said they didn't love it. Which is why I want to get a UK cover. I borrowed this book from the library, and I had to wait a WHILE for it. But it was so worth it. 

This is easily going to be one of my biggest summer read suggestions of this year.

Brilliant! I loved it from the begining to the end, it was a rollercoaster and as a person that isn't really into romantic or emotional themed recommendations, i read it in three days and i liked it so much to the point of even reading the acknowledgments. 

I loved how each character was written and evolved by the end of the book, it fell like i was falling in love when they were, feeling thrilled and anxious and petrified with them. I personally don't relate to her personality as even if i remain even a little bit grounded to reality deep inside I'm a total optimist with a big smile, but i believe we all have an Elisabeth inside us, and of course a scientist.

Luckily I'm currently studying for my university entrance exams and the school chemistry material is enough for me to understand what the book talks about (most of the time), and even though i found the genius of 6:30 a bit extreme, it didn't matter. Any flaw in this book isn't enough for me to even put a 4.75 review. 

It even motivated me and think of my own future and thoughts, which i believe is the true and honest meaning of this half a kilo of a book. 

To those who haven't started yet, if you didn't manage to catch the point this far, i wish you a pleasant reading (as pleasant as it can get)

As a women in stem I found this book difficult to read and I think had this been told by someone who had experienced science from the inside it may have come across more sincere. The distraction of the dog having a state of consciousness I found brought me out if the story and as well as the ridiculous way the male lead dies. I don't think it's that funny and have to say  was quite disappointed by it.

Elizabeth Zott är kemist, men under 50-talet tycker fortfarande de flesta att kvinnans plats är i hemmet. Inte ens forskningsinstitutet där hon jobbar tycker annorlunda. Hennes forskningsprojekt ses ned på och hon blir ständigt motarbetad, men Elizabeth Zott tar ingen skit.

Jag älskar Elizabeth Zott! En feministisk ikon utan att hon egentligen tänker så, hon förstår bara inte varför män och kvinnor ska behandlas olika eller varför de inte skulle ha samma förutsättningar. Jag blir arg över könsdiskrimineringen, trots att jag vet hur det var på 50- och 60-talet (och fortfarande är inom vissa områden), men Elizabeths inställning ändrar sig aldrig. Jag gillar att hon även "dissar" andra konventionella saker som äktenskap, barn och "kvinnliga" kläder. Hon porträtteras ändå inte som manhaftig, även om hon har svårt att skaffa kvinnliga vänner (eller vänner över huvud taget).

Trots många manliga (och en del kvinnliga) idioter så finns det tack och lov några som behandlar kvinnor med åtminstone lite respekt. Calvin Evans, känd forskare, jobbar på samma ställe som Elizabeth. Deras första möte går inget vidare, men de blir sedan ett par. Calvin har visserligen svårt att förstå att Elizabeth inte vill gifta sig, men han accepterar så småningom hennes beslut. Doktor Mason har inga problem med att tillåta kvinnor i roddklubben och Walter Pine, TV-producent, blir Elizabeths vän när han till slut ger upp sina fruktlösa försök att ändra på henne. 

Förutom Elizabeth Zott så älskar jag hennes lilla dotter Mad (Madeline). Även här frångår Elizabeth konventionen när hon uppfostrar henne. Men boken skulle kunna läsas enbart p g a Halv Sju! Halv Sju är en herrelös hund som kommer in i Elizabeth och Calvins liv. Han har till och med en egen berättarröst och mer eller mindre mänskliga egenskaper. 

Det är svårt att förstå att det här är en debut och jag hoppas att Bonnie Garmus skriver något mer! Lena Endre gör även en lysande uppläsning som verkligen förgyllde min läsupplevelse!
